The INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE SAÚDE (INS) of Mozambique plans a pilot study to implement sequencing in the National Health System

For the first time, Mozambique hosted on the 5thof April 2024 a meeting to discuss a pilot study with the objective of  implementing  target Next Generation Sequencing (tNGS) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (Mtbc) as a diagnostic tool to be integrated in the National Health System of Mozambique, for further use on patient management care. The Research Centre of Borstel (RCB), Instituto Nacional de Saúde (INS) and the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) were represented in this meeting.  Crucial areas that include primary and secondary objectives of the pilot, sample flow in terms of patient selection, sample collection, transport, testing, and results reporting were addressed. such initiatives, as starting this pilot study, are critical now that the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the use of tNGS as diagnostic tool, particularly in countries in limited resource settings  like Mozambique where multi drug resistance Tuberculosis is a high burden.
