Work Package 2 (WP2)- Capacity building for genomics surveillance of endemic, emerging and re-emerging pathogens 

Objectives: 

1. To develop a well-structured modular curriculum for online short-term professional certificate courses in  Pathogen Genomics, Bio-banking and Genomics Data Management for capacity building in Africa. 
2. To conduct hands-on pathogen genomics training for genomics surveillance of endemic, emerging and re- emerging pathogens.
3. To conduct hands-on biobanking and genomics data management training for laboratory personnel in Africa. 

  The ten specific tasks of the WP are: 

1. Establish a Curriculum Development Oversight Committee (CDOC) 
2. Develop curriculum for both online and hands-on training 
3. Develop training materials  
4. Establish a training Web Portal Oversight Committee (WPOC)  
5. Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for managing the training web portal 
6. Mentorship and Networking Oversight Committee (MNOC)  
7. Develop SOPs for mentorship and networking 
8. Launch online training portal and begin accepting students online 
9. Organize hands-on genomics surveillance training for endemic, emerging, and re-emerging pathogens 
10. Organize hands-on biobanking and genomics data management training
